Mental Health in the workplace

There is no question that businesses perform better when they have a healthy, happy team.  Employees suffering from mental health issues can be demotivated and underperforming.  Creating a supportive atmosphere and an open, friendly, non-judgmental environment to discuss mental health issues with staff can be key in determining how well, quickly and effectively employees recover.

Many employees will find a conversation about their mental health very difficult and may even worry about losing their job or being discriminated against for raising this issues in the workplace.  A trained manager is taught what to look out for, to listen and deal with these types of conversations sensitively and with empathy. Following up with an action plan and making reasonable adjustments for the employee can go a long way in providing the necessary support they may need.

Head of employment law, Sarah Collier and Anna Reddy from Leap Health have recorded a vlog discussing mental health in the workplace – including how employers can support employees, what to look out for, how we can help ourselves and a few tips on what others can do.
