Co-Habitation Agreements
Divorce & Family Law
A Co-habitation Agreement is a contract setting out how unmarried partners intend to conduct their lives together whether in the long or short term and can cover issues such as finances, property and children.
It is important that both parties obtain independent legal advice to ensure the agreement is fair in the event the relationship comes to an end. The cohabitation agreement should be reviewed and updated to reflect significant life changes such as having children or purchasing a new home. It must be signed and witnessed by the parties and their solicitors.
The cohabitation agreement is a legally binding document which is signed as a deed. Without a valid agreement cohabiting couples have limited rights therefore it is vital to seek legal advice at the outset.
