Part of KBL’s Story for Over Three Decades

After more than 30 years with KBL, Phil Stephenson is stepping back from day-to-day practice. While no longer involved in the office on a daily basis, his knowledge, experience and insight continue to be a valued part of the firm’s work and culture.

Phil joined KBL in 1990 as an Articled Clerk, qualified in 1992, became an Associate Solicitor in 1995, Partner in 1998, Managing Partner 2000 – 2014 and later a Consultant in 2021. Throughout his career, he advised on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, including a standout role negotiating the master sponsorship agreement with the West Indies Cricket Board.

His contributions have been instrumental in shaping KBL’s Corporate & Commercial team, fostering long-term relationships with owner-managed businesses across the North West and helping the firm build a reputation for high quality, client focused service. He once described himself as “fundamentally, much too easy going for the job I do” – a phrase that reflects the calm, approachable nature which has inspired confidence in colleagues and clients alike.

Beyond his professional achievements, Phil has been an active member of the Bolton & District Round Table and is known for his love of fell walking, as well as supporting both the England and Wales rugby teams (depending on who’s playing!).

While Phil has stepped back from day-to-day practice, his impact and influence remain an important part of KBL’s story. We thank him sincerely for his 35 years of dedication, expertise and friendship and look forward to maintaining close ties as he enjoys a new pace of life beyond the office.
