KBL advises on MBO at Gaffey Technical Services
Lancashire-based Gaffey Technical Services has completed a management buyout as part of a family succession strategy, securing the company’s future under next-generation leadership.
The transaction brings Philip and Paula Gaffey’s children, Hannah and Daniel, into shared ownership, with both stepping into director roles with increased responsibility for day-to-day operations and to lead the business into its next phase of growth.
Gaffey Technical Services was founded in 1986 and has evolved from supplying chemical dosing and control systems to becoming a specialist manufacturer of in-situ sustainable chemical generation technologies. Today, the company exports to more than 20 countries and is recognised for its innovation and technical expertise within the UK’s commercial pool and industrial water sectors.
The MBO builds on a process of gradual transition which began in 2020 and forms part of the company’s five-year succession plan. The transaction allows Philip to focus on supporting the team’s international expansion, while Hannah and Daniel lead on operational management and the digital transformation of the business.
Greg Gardner-Boyes, Corporate Partner at KBL commented “It has been a privilege to work with the Gaffey family on this significant milestone. This MBO not only secures the legacy of a long-established family business but also positions it for future growth under Hannah and Daniel’s leadership.”
Philip Gaffey added “It’s not the first time Greg and the KBL team have supported us in legal matters and once again, both a professional and personable experience. Greg’s delivery is water-tight and paperwork you know is pretty much a cast-iron guarantee that the job is done right. These are critical moments for family businesses like Gaffey’s undertaking this journey and we couldn’t have been in safer hands.”
The deal was funded by Mercia Asset Management. Pierce Corporate Finance, led by Steve Bell with support from Khadija Patel, advised on the corporate finance elements, while tax advice was provided by Dominic Ball. Legal advice to the Gaffey family was provided by KBL Solicitors.
