An increase to the Family Court fees from 30 September

From 30th September 2021, the government have increased various Court fees payable to the Family Court. Key applications which have been hit with a rise include:
Application | Old fee | New fee |
Divorce Proceedings | £550 | £593 |
Financial Remedy Proceedings | £255 | £275 |
Financial Consent Order | £50 | £53 |
Children Act Proceedings | £215 | £232 |
The increase to fees comes despite the majority of Family Law practitioners being against the proposal. The government suggested the rise is necessary to reflect inflation and increased Court running costs, whereas those practising in Family Law have argued that the digitalisation of many services should mean that running costs are actually lower.
It is clear, however, that the Courts are under enormous amounts of pressure to meet demand and process a backlog of applications.
Those seeking to issue proceedings with the Court or resolve their Family Law matter by consent should now be prepared to pay the increased fee.
