Retirement Age of 65 is Legal

A recent High Court case has confirmed that the UK Default Retirement Age of 65 is in fact legal.

It is therefore possible to retire an employee at the age of 65 - provided the necessary procedures are followed.

If these procedures are not followed employers may run the risk of being liable for claims of unfair dismissal, age discrimination, and also an automatic 8 week award for failure to follow the relevant retirement procedure.
