New Gas Regulations

From 1st April 2009 landlords will be required to ensure that anyone instructed to carry out gas work is registered under the new Gas Safe Register.

The new gas installer registration scheme will replace the one currently operated by CORGI.

Bolton based KBL Solicitors are warning residential landlords of the changes regarding the Gas Safe Register and are reminding them of their legal duty to ensure annual gas safety checks are carried out on gas appliances, pipes and flues. Detailed records must be kept and a copy given to the tenant. Non compliance is an offence.

KBL Partner, David Johnson says “The new scheme is intended to improve health and safety for both the gas installers and the consumer. Landlords must ensure they comply with the latest legislation and strictly adhere to the conditions imposed. Failure to do so could have disastrous consequences.”
