About Bolton Hospice Established in 1992, Bolton Hospice is now a centre of excellence in the provision of specialist palliative care for local people living with a life limiting or life threatening illness. The Hospice consists of a 14-bedded inpatient unit. Patients are cared for by a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team. The care, which is provided completely free of charge, is based on individual needs and encompasses the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of care.

Our purpose built Day Therapy Unit now offers a highly valued service for up to 10 patients Monday to Friday each week. The service offers holistic support to patients and carers. Patients are also able to access complementary therapies, diversional therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and hairdressing as well as many social activities.

The medical and nursing support given in Day Therapy allows patients to remain in their own homes for longer, whilst allowing the carer some planned respite each week.

Outpatients’ Clinics are held three times a week at the Hospice and offer medical and nursing assessment. This service supports people and families who may not need or wish to access other areas of hospice care at that time. This service allows people to be cared for at home longer.

The Hospice at Home team offers skilled nursing care to those patients in the final weeks of life and who choose to die at home, whilst continuing to support their carers and families. This service is offered in conjunction with local GPs, District Nurses and Social Services. There is no charge to any of our patients or their families. Our running costs are currently £2.3 million annually. We receive a grant of 35% towards this from the Primary Care Trust, leaving the Fundraising Department with £1.5 million to raise this year. Therefore we rely heavily on the generosity of the public we serve, the people of Bolton.

Legacies are vital to our future: The Value of a Legacy every week in Britain a staggering number of people are diagnosed with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Sadly it is clear to see that for many years to come there will be a great number of patients and their families who will need the care and support which Bolton Hospice gives completely free of charge.

This is why, just as a Will brings security to your family’s future, a legacy to Bolton Hospice will help secure the future care of our patients. Every legacy is a promise – a promise that the Hospice will always be there to help their patients and families come to terms with their illness and live as fulfilling a life as possible.

Legacies are a vital source of funding for the Hospice. They enable us to continue to provide comprehensive specialist care for local people, to offer support to them, their families and carers.

Expert care that is individual to the patient, detailed and sensitive. Legacies and Tax You do not have to be wealthy to leave money to a charity. Virtually everyone has the capacity to make some form of gift when they die, no matter how small. It is surprising how the value of your possessions can add up.

We would be pleased to receive any amount from your Will, however modest, and you can be sure that it will make a difference. Donations to charity are exempt from tax so for those of you with substantial assets, leaving money to hospice in your Will reduces the inheritance tax on your estate.

By leaving a gift to Bolton Hospice in your Will you can help to secure the future of your loved ones and local people. Please help us continue to care. If you wish to make an appointment or discuss further making a Will, please contact the Fundraising Department.
