Co-habitation Agreements

Although the Government is putting forward proposals for legal arrangements for couples who live together, it is unlikely to be made law in the near future.

A Co-habitation Agreement is simply a contract setting out how two people intend to conduct their lives together whether in the long or short term and can cover issues such as finances, property and parental responsibility. However, it has no legal standing but shows good evidence of each individual’s intentions if, unfortunately, the relationship breaks down.
