Energy Performance Certificates (EPC)
All commercial buildings of more than 2500 sq m now require an EPC when being sold or let and from 1 October 2008 this will be extended to cover all commercial buildings, regardless of size.
The certificate grades the energy performance of the building and provides suggestions as to how energy efficiency could be improved. Certificates must be made available by the seller or landlord (with no charge) to prospective buyers or tenants and will be valid for 10 years.
